Be Brave :: Engage in Party Crashing
December 17, 2018
This week: Engage in Party Crashing > just do it!
Sometimes you need to let loose a little and stir up a little excitement… within reason of course.
I had the honour of being invited to a client’s Christmas party hosted at a conference centre this past weekend. A friend of mine, who is affiliated with a broadcasting company, had their party in the same location, but two floors up from where we were.
“Come up!” was the request.
So, during a break in the action of Party #1, I ran up the back stairs of the hotel to Party #2.
As it would happen, “Baby Got Back” was thumping through the sound system at Party #2 as I spotted my friend shaking a tail feather on the dance floor. I snuck through the crowd (well as much as a 6’ 2” person can sneak), sidled up beside her on the floor, and started dancing. As it turns out, the guests at Party #2 were more than okay to have a party crasher step in for a few songs to shake it out on the dance floor.
After much laughter, dancing, and chatting, I took the back stairs down to Party #1 to resume visiting and dancing there.
As I reflect on the weekend, I believe we’ve all been there. Those moments in life where it’s just you and you’re in the back stairwell of a convention centre about to do something a little out of your comfort zone and doubt will start creeping in.
“This is a stupid idea.”
“People will think you’re a loser.”
“Just go back, don’t embarrass yourself.”
I think it’s good to have sober second thought at times, but there are times you need to just go for it and crash a party your friends are at for the fun of it. Just don’t forget to shake a tail feather.
